What are baroreceptors

Definition:

The receptors which detect alternations in  pressure are called baroreceptors.

Explanation:

Invertebrates do not have specific structures or organs to detect pressure. But they have ability to show response to change in pressure. These responses have been detected in following invertebrates.

  1. Jelly fish

  2. Medusa

  3. Squids

  4. Ctenophores

  5. Crustaceans

  6. Copepods

Some Crustaceans coordinate the migratory activity with daily tidal movement. It shows this response due to pressure changes with the water depth.
